Seychelles Piracy ?

Anyone heard any news about Somalian piracy in the Seychelles? Last I heard in early May there was a Somalian mother ship there with 3 fast boats, each with 3 to 5 men aboard; and that 12 yachts had been sequestered and they were asking ransom. This was supposedly reported by a French yacht who managed to get out of the Seychelles and reported this via SSB to a local net one morning. A friend was in Sri Lanka and listened to the Frenchman's transmission.

I later read that during first week of May that French commandos captured 3 Somalis and turned them over to the coast guard in Seychelles for prosecution.

Anyone have any more recent news about this? A friend is in Chagos and supposed to head to Seychelles soon and would like latest info so can decide if that is a good idea or not. I cannot find any recent news online about Seychelles piracy.

Thanks, Maren. The Live Piracy website does show additional activity after the first week of May, although all reports are of container ships or tankers and not private yachts. That means the pirates were still active in the Seychelles at least through 19 May.

Noonsite is pretty useless for this because it is updated by reports submitted from cruisers and usually is not timely for such a volatile situation as piracy.
