The meaning of Papeetised

Can someone please set the record straight? What is the full meaning of a “papeetised” boat and are there any documents to reference. Occasionally, I see a boat advertised as papeetised stating that the owner can stay in French Polynesia indefinitely. I believe that this is misstated and only applies to EU citizens or various independent countries that have a special agreement with FP (these countries are listed on noonsite). For everyone else I think that only the boat can stay indefinitely as duties have been paid in FP.

The term papeetised means all tax/duties have been paid on the vessel and it is now officially imported into French Polynesia. It has no reference to the citzenship of the owner of the vessel that was papeetised. The owner of the vessel must meet all the immigration rules of FP. For example if you are EU then yes you can stay indefinitely. If you are non EU then you will need to apply for a French Polynesia Long Stay visa. After 5 years of yearly LS renewals then you can qualify for a 10 year resident visa.

We have imported Jacaranda a few years ago. I am on a EU passport and my wife is on a US passport.

Does this answer your question?
