Papeetised Yacht

We bought a yacht last year in Raiatea, which will remain her home for the next couple of years- there is so much to see in the area, that the only downside is the effort and cost required to get there.

The yacht is papeetised- meaning it is fully imported into French Polynesia and can stay indefinitely, as opposed to “foreign” boats that have to obtain and maintain a 3 year cruising permit. It is American flagged.

I have just been wondering if there is anybody out there who has a similar situation, but know if there are any other benefits of having the yacht Papeetised? My understanding is that we can relocate the yacht to New Caledonia and only have to pay the difference in import duties between what we paid in FP to NC. Anybody done that?

Also as FP is part of France, is it part of the EU- so can we move the yacht to the Mediterranean??

Looking forward to your ideas and thoughts.

Re: Papeetised Yacht

French Polynesia is not part of the European customs union. So vat paid in FP has no effect for sailing in the med.
