Leaving boat in Malasyia

Looking to leave boat in Malasyia (probably Miri marina) and return to states for 3 months and work I cannot find info on line about bond or customs regulations to do this as are pretty clear in Thailand. Anyone have up to date information on regulations or issue ?

Ya. Lamadriver has it right. Malaysia is, so far, quite cruiser friendly.

As long as you keep your visa status clean and abide by Malaysian law, you get to keep your hull in Malaysian waters. No bond.

Sarawak has a degree of autonomy within the Malaysian federation (and Sarawak wants more autonomy), so some procedures can differ from those on the peninsula (aka West Malaysia).

If it were straightforward and reasonable Langkawi would still be a little fishing town.

I recently left my boat in Miri marina for several months when I returned to the UK, you wont have any problem, in fact you should get a hefty discount from the marina for a long stay. Very safe and secure there too.
I have done the same in Langkawi and Penang without any issues.

Hi! Wrtaylormd,

No problem at all, but the new laws stated that all vessel entering Malaysian Waters must in a possession of a valid 3rd party insurance coverage.

If you are in West Malaysian marina/ports, you may contact Capt.Joe at mobile number +6019-7990170 or Joabdullah@rocketmail.com for any help.

Regards.
