Kind of late to post this, but isn't a Selene (the boat indicated in the OP) a big nordhaven type m/v? If so, would any of you reconsider your advice? going to windward is kinda different for these guys!

Jim
Good catch! And the OP says it's a Selene LRC - which is a bit confusing.

Ocean Trawler Yachts produce both monohull Selene trawlers and multihull Journey LRC power cats. But no "Selene LRC" AFAIK.

If it is indeed an LRC, then it may actually be a Journey LRC ocean going power catamaran such as this:

.
Or this:

You're kidding me, Jim?

You mean that a big nordhaven type m/v might somehow be immune to:

* the incompetent corrupt thugs of the Aus Border Force?

* big waves (for a recent case of a container ship that may have capsized in the Malacca Strait because of big waves, see: http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/385565)?

* line squalls?

* lightning associated with the thunderstorm cells embedded in line squalls?

* small scale fishers, their boats and their prop-fouling nets?

* or any of the other hazards I listed in posts 2 and 3 of this thread?

There's a reason that old wooden fishing boats crammed with refugees chose to motor to Australia in the intermonsoon periods (and not the peak of the SW/SE monsoon. Times of light winds and/or following winds are enjoyed by both m/v and s/v sailors, no?
