<pokes HighSeas> How *is* the boat getting on?

I was all ready to head to the states this past week, but the heater decided to pack it in and I'm not heading out for a week or two at this time of year without some reliable heat below. Even if today turned into a gorgeous blowout of a day (being spent running from store to store trying to find the right parts/advice.)

As for Njøe∂son heading south this fall... not likely. If everything works and the river don't rise, I'll be in the dentist chair in September getting the bionic mouth (which is costing about as much as a cream puff Cape Dory 25D....), a process taking 11 months from start to finish.

I believe the bajahaha is Nov.1st.,I'm hoping to depart Victoria around Aug.6 as there are good ebb tides in morning out the Juan De Fuca,to Neah Bay.Probably going to straight shot it to Brookings or Crescent City,where its a little warmer,then start harbor hopping.(No Bars to deal with).Going to Haulout in month or so and change prop.,then pretty much good to go.My CF chips for my Rayc80 from Navionics is taking forever,have a Garmin 76c also on my laptop,and a third GPS on my VHF.Soon will have my AIS running,need to pick up special coax end for antenna.

I am using SEACLEAR on a laptop. I have 2 lap, 1 PC on DT. 1 Garmin 76.
I have a couple of other programs, but only Seaclear is AIS ready. I may get the new ' The Capt'n', this year before I go. It is up to date with AIS, radar, and all electroncis. This is a personal choice.

Are you going receive or transponder AIS. Why?

Only receive,I was under impression small vessels should'nt be transmiting AIS.Maybe down the road will upgrade to transponder.I have the new sailcruiser program which the AIS runs on.It is a good detection system,with perimeter alarm, which complements Radar.

I believe it is kind of up in the air on that one. Ships in a close harbor will have 'B' off so they won't be overwhelmed with 'clutter'. Offshore may be different. Additionally, teh transponder I am looking at 'ACR' has the ability to 'not transmit. Therefore only receive mode is enabled if you want. This is a good thing in areas where you may not want any local small, fast, heavily armed, gunrunnign pirates knowing about you.
I am going with teh ACR Transponder, will turn on TX when offshore

Sounds like a few of us heading out this fall. We are moving on to our 35" Cooper begining of june.........playing around the Gulf islands then wanting to head down the PNW to end up in the Baja for the Christmas. From what I understand alot of folks gather in San Diego?
Would be nice to meet some of you before that?
We are not partiers but do enjoy good company, good food, and good wine........music too if you can sing? hahahah!

Well, I'm running through money faster than planned because of an unexpected opportunity to sail south this summer. If the stars and everything align, departure sometime in August.

Now if I could just get the rate of accomplished tasks up to the rate of newly discovered tasks...

We are also heading for the baha haha and have set a date to start looking at the weather the second week of aug to leave victoria and straight to san fran to clear in. I have been told if you clear in at neah bay or others they will make you get rid of your meat and dairy or anything else you can't bring in to the states. I would guess things might be a little more exspensive in the smaller towns on the coast?. I have a crew of 6 so most of my provisioning will be done in victoria (costco). Has anyone else made any arrangements for a slip in san diego or moorage? we have got a slip at kona kai marina for the monthes of sept and oct, maybe some of you will be near by?

cant help you with any of your questions as this our first run in that area.
We are also planning on going straight through..........get a good tack and away we go.
Our crew is two of us and two feline katz!
Interesting to hear what other have experienced??

I too am ready. But will be hopping south in July.Boat is finnished short of a shake down.Looking for one or two to San Deigo.In the Puget Sound and sailing daily.
