Any other sailors feeling a little left out of the winter olympics?

Perhaps it's time to petition the International Olympic Committee to add "ICE SAILING" to the games!!!???

Seems like I remember seeing something like that on "Wide World of Sports" many years ago. As I recall it's very popular on the frozen lakes in Minnesota, Wisconsin, etc.

Pwederell could be the first olympic medal contender representing Antarctica!!!!

This looks like a lot of off-season fun. I hear it's popular in New England.

Here in California, it would probably be better to go with the wheels and get out to the dry lake beds of the Mojave desert. That's less than a three-hour drive for me.

BTW, windward beats usually involve catamaran-like hikes of the windward rear wheel off the ground (like multi-hulls, there's no ballast to keep things down where they belong). You can bet those guys don't cleat off their mainsheets!

I hear close reaches can achieve 60mph or higher. Yikes!

DN Ice Boats were invented via a Detroit News contest. Hence the DN class. This is now an international sport, most popular in Holland & Germany.

Whether on ice or using wheels on land, this looks like it would be great fun, and not too prohibitively expensive.

Surely there's as big a following for ice sailing as there would be for curling, which is a winter olympic sport that is on tv as I write this.

I would think Ice Sailing would draw a LOT higher TV ratings.

problem is with ice conditions. when it's right, it's fantastic. when the ice isn't right it's no good to sail at all or just dangerous. very difficult to get the perfect conditions.

I have been ogling the land sailors for years at the boat shows, but they want a fortune for the darn things. Somehow, $3000 for some tubing, wheels and a sail seems out of line. Looks like lots of fun though.
