That race would have to have been the best event in Australian sporting history. A huge chunk of the population stayed up until the early hours to watch it (from memory the race was being broadcast live for the first time). It felt personal .

I will never forget the image of the prime minister Bob Hawke sitting watching the event with probably a few too many drinks under his belt uttering these words on national TV:

''Any boss who sacks anyone for not turning up today is a bum.''

Yep, that's in the video!

It's a 30th Anniversary video. It even starts with a few shots of this years boats, the AC72s. And a couple of the guys on that 1983 Australian Team were working for Team Oracle this year.
