I feel restored everytime I set sail with one last look cast back at the insanity left behind.

Re: Simple rules for starting sailing

Keep more water out of the boat than you let in, or you will develop negative buoyancy.

My next boat will be named "Acceptance".

To keep on topic - Gasoline is in red cans, diesel is in yellow cans.

Don't ask me how I learned that.

3500 years agoi -- even 300 years ago -- the death rate was considerably higher.

Respect that you are doing something inherently dangerous ... but have fun doing it!

Re: Simple rules for starting sailing

1. Try to make the boat go forward.
2. Don't hit anything.
3. Don't get too close to shore.
4. Sailboats heel over. It's okay. Supposed to do that.
5. When you raft up, have adult beverages to share. You will be liked.
6. Don't let your halyards slap in the marina.
7. Read The Annapolis Book of Seamanship.
