Short Sailing Certificate

Hello All,

I have really enjoyed reading the posts here and it has awakened my desire to sail more.

I really have veeerrry little experience sailing and and no formal training. I live in Europe now and am hesitant to rent even a small boat because I have nothing to show that I have any skill.

I remember renting a Hobie in Florida once and I had to convince them that I could handle it -- that was Florida, where I could argue my case-- this is Europe and I don't speak the language, so...

Is there some kind of course I could take to get some kind of credential that will show that I can handle myself on a sailboat.

I am thinking probably in the U.S. but maybe you would know of something here in Europe as well, although it would need to be in English.
