Ship Registry Help please "Merchant Vessels of the United States"

I am researching the history of wooden Motor Yacht that was built in 1930 by using the annual registry books that are available online at HathiTrust from the University of Ohio that goes as far as 1981; that provides a Vessel Identification Number, name and address of the owner, vessel name and previous names. I am also using the ibiblio site for the Department of Commerce, Bureau of Navigation which covers the years 1895 to 1965; using the search phrase "Merchant Vessels of the United States".

I am not able to find anything past 1981. I have visited the USCG sites with no luck.

Any advice?

Thank you

Re: Ship Registry Help please "Merchant Vessels of the United States"

Boats built in 1930 did not have HIN or VIN numbers. Yachts are not likely to be found in listings of Merchant Vessels. Lloyd’s Register of Yachts might be more helpful. You will need the name of the vessel. It might also help to know where she was built and the designer. Magazines like Yachting might have had an article about a significant motor yacht built in 1930. People on the WoodenBoat forum could also be worth asking. Information of this type is not likely to be online. It is too arcane.
