Registration Delaware/Poland/UK - Insurance implications

Having read several threads, I have not seen much discussion of the new Polish registration touted by the online vendors that also sell Delaware registration. Its good for life apparently, but like the Delaware reg, I am suspicious how widely it will be accepted a year or two from now after the mainstream crowd have flocked to this option.


UK reg is open to me as a UK citizen, and I am guessing it will be cheaper than the online vendors price if I can do it from Turkey where me+boat are.


Then there is the ever tricky insurance. Old beat up boat in another country with Polish reg and a new skipper... good luck right. I am also not clear if insurance is MANDATORY in some countries when entering.. specifically Greece, Spain and Italy?? (please no rants about possible worst case scenarios and horror stories) Boat will be on the hook always, NEVER in marina or boatyard etc etc etc.


It seems to me that a Uk citizen with UK reg should be able to get liability only insurance without much issue, but that is not the case. They either rape you so you spend more than the boat cots in 3-5yrs, or just deny you. Either way you are without insurance. So by force or choice, being without insurance is a reality.



If you have RECENT FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE ONLY of the insurance requirements of Greece, Spain and Italy please respond on the topic of insurance.


Finally there is the DEKPA document for Greece. It seems to demand insurance certificate (in Greek!) anyone have RECENT FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE of no insurance experience with that?
