Also, what's up with all the "sirs" and attitude? As far as I can tell, this post is the first one where you've clearly stated why you can't return the $3000 radar you mentioned earlier. If you still had that radar in the box, as it seemed to many of us you did up until reading this post of yours I'm quoting, taking Kens advice and returning it seemed like a pretty reasonable way to raise the necessary money to solve your problems, at least to me. Some of the posts that you seem to prefer aren't really giving you any useful advice, but Ken is trying to and I would think that even you could understand why he might be a bit frustrated when we're still learning some of the most basic facts of your situation many days and many, many dozens of posts later. If you had clearly stated just what your problems were, you could have avoided a whole lot of unnecessary posts and frustration, both on your part and on the part of some of the most experienced CFers who are trying to steer you in the right direction. I understand that you didn't even know enough about your boats problems to clearly enunciate just what you needed and you weren't deliberately playing mind games with us by withholding critical information, but that's just what you unintentionally did. I don't think I've ever read a thread where there was so much confusion as to what the problem that the OP wanted solved really was. So, maybe you should reread Kens posts in the spirit they were undoubtedly intended, as straightforward and practical advice?
She did say earlier the vessel was previously sailed with paper and use of sextant suggesting no plotter. It is not unreasonable to fit a plotter together with packaged radar and who are we to suggest they will not use radar. Even Kenomac actually uses his radar for navigation and avoidance ( I knote from some of his posts).

Re: NEED A TOW ASAP

I once had to buy a used outboard as an emergency replacement. It really didn't fit what I needed but it got me through 6 weeks. I then sold it for exactly what I paid for it. If you can find a good used outboard to get you home it might not cost you anything but the bracket.

I see my outboard advice was not appreciated, I'll remember both remarks.

We'll need the model number & year. Westerbeke was kind of inconsistent in that they marinized different brands of motors. If you haven't had someone dive the boat yet I can guarantee the prop is fouled. Doesn't take long in Florida. Clean the prop & change the impellor & I'll bet your overheating problem will be taken care of.

I still think an electric fuel pump is a great idea. I bought one at Napa for less than $30 & it's worked great for the last 16 years. Once it's installed you can just turn it on & it'll start polishing your fuel. Just make sure that if you have 2 tanks you always return to the same tank you're feeding off of. This makes changing filters super easy. Just drain the bowl, slap in the new filter & turn on the pump. A lot of diesels will self bleed this way so that's all there is to it. It will also pressurize your line so you can find any leak easily. It's also a backup fuel pump in case the primary fuel pump dies on you. Plus this way you don't have to take sides in the great squeeze bulb debate!

Also be sure your centerboard cable is intact before you break the centerboard loose. You can probably fix that in the water but it might be a real pain. You'll only need the centerboard if you're trying to point into the wind anyway & if the winds out of the north you'd do best to motor up the ICW. The stream can get pretty nasty when the current's fighting the wind. Anyway, motoring up the ICW will be a leisurely & enjoyable trip. Plus, you can do some sailing on the ICW in spots although I'd be sure & have the sails down when you get to a bridge.

Re: NEED A TOW ASAP

I went back & looked at the listing. There's a picture of an outboard in the cockpit & what looks like a centerboard for a dinghy. The diesel is a 2001 45hp Westerbeke. There's self steering attached to the transom & I don't think an outboard bracket will fit there. Shouldn't need it anyway. This motors only 15 years old & it reportedly starts easily.

Re: NEED A TOW ASAP

If it were me I wouldn't mess with the centerboard at this point. Not needed for the trip home so as my grandfather would say "Leave well enough alone."

And images 14,15 & 16 in this listing are of the diesel engine! So, all you diesel experts (I am not one) take a look and tell us what you think ?

Can someone post these images to this thread?
