Med Weather - Port Said to Turkey, Now

Hi Folks,

We do the second part of Suez canal tomorrow so will be in the Med heading to turkey tomorrow, Saturday afternoon.

Its a new weather region for me and I have thew GRIB files and WindGuru.com but I was wondering is someone can give me a good interpretation for the next 5 days.

20 knots on the nose is fine for us, but 30 isn't too good. It doesnt look like that but sometiimes Grib files under read in other seas/oceans etc.

Thoughts from now till as far as you can see, please. And I send you Nicolle for a week. no forecasts and I'll send her to you for 2 weeks!

Thanks muchly

Mark

Thanks Randy,

We can handle that

It takes a while to learn each new area, and ages even to find the resources.

After the Red Sea upwind ain't such a pain - <<Touch Wood!>> Just gotta relax and do it, read some books, and let the belly jiggle on the day bed!

Here's hoping you can ride a nice Sirocco.

Have you seen this quick-loading wind chart, which currently shows all moderate force, but mostly contrary winds?

Mark, enjoy the canal and if the weather is a bit much when you reach the Med you could stop over in Alexandria. We found it far more European than Cairo with a cooling breeze from the sea.

With the apparent conflicting info let me include my source and you can sort it out. Windfinder - Wind & weather forecast map Near East (Israel, Cyprus, Lebanon). This info pretty much indicates a high pressure system for the week in the eastern Med.

So Nick is going to show up on whoever's doorstep that happens to be closest?!

Either way good luck with the passage. What port or area are you headed for in Turkey? Going into the Black Sea?

Hi Mark, I missed meeting you in Langkawi, just before you headed off into the Bay of Bengal. Looks like you had a good trip over to the Med?
I have had a very enjoyable 6 week cruise up to the Similan Islands from Langkawi, with my daughter and her female friend from Canada.
Now I waiting at Patong beach for my dental work to be completed and will head back to Malaysia and start a 6 month surfing/cruise of Sumatra/Java?Bali and back.
I hope to follow in your footsteps next year!
Fair winds from Keith.

Thanks everyone, thanks Gord and Randy for those new websites.
Thanks Ram for the advice.

I thought the Med having so many people around it would have spot on weatrher forcasting... but many eyes see different things! LOL

Thanks Keith, and sorry to have missed you. The Similan Islands were great - we nearly got arrested by the National Parks police after I tyhought the people collecting Park Fees there just kids hitting cruisers for money. LOL

Good luck with the dental work. It was fiunny to see so many cruisers with new teeth, less scars and far less facial moles etc after their stops in Malaysia and Thailand!

Thailand to Salalah, Oman dicert: 26 days, 2,800 miles

Oman to Pt Ghalib direct 20 days, 5 days motoring in convoy to near Aden and 15 days pluggin up the red sea doing about 65 miles per day.
Tough but we had fun and arrived relaxed, well rested and well fed. We had 25+ on the nose for a full week LOL and sailed all the way!
