That is ... interesting, or even weird, for lack of a better word.

My first thought was carbon monoxide poisoning, but that's just guessing of course, and not very likely.
Tho I'm not really sure what is "likely" in a situation like this ...

Will be interesting to see what the investigation turns up.

Really? Given that they were spotted from a tanker, I can only assume they were visible in the cockpit or similar. My first thought was a vitamin overdose… vitamin Pb that is. Taken subcutaneously.

Re: Man and dog found dead on yacht

It is not immediately clear whether the photo is of the yacht taken from the tanker which reported the bodies. I seriously doubt anyone from the reporting tanker went aboard so the bodies were likely visible from the deck/bridge of the tanker. If the photo is of the yacht in its found state, there are some salient facts: a D400 wind generator, solar panels and other similar indicates a well set up cruising boat. Outboard on the rail under cover and other features which suggest the trip begal calmly. No headsail apparent on headstay furling gear. Mainsail in disarray and apparently dumped in a hurry but not flaked. No particular sign of damage to main otherwise. Main hard sheeted in a configuration which suggests boat was motorsailing at or shortly before time of death. Odd marks on port side deck by the mast which could be an artefact, could be rust (but boat appears in generally good condition and no obvious reason for that much rust on this vessel) or could be something else. Blood? Was the skipper by the mast in the act of dropping the sails when something caused a major injury, forcing him to abandon the sail and perhaps collapse in the cockpit? If an accident dog could have died subsequently (and fairly quickly) from lack of water. If not, dog could have died much sooner still…

Nope, they just spotted the boat (I assume with the sails as in the picture) and found the bodies inside:

"a tanker vessel which was moving from Jamaica to Brazil observed the French-registered Yacht drifting with the tides out at sea. In the Yacht a dead man and a dog were spotted inside."

Spotted inside makes it sound like you can easily see inside a sailing boat drifting by ... but anyway, sounds like they weren't in the cockpit - but probably near the steps?

And yes - you can actually get carbon monoxide poisoning on a sailboat with the motor running. As I said, it's not a very likely scenario, but it does happen.

Sharp eye - I missed that somehow but it does seem 'out of place'.

The article makes it clear that the recovery operation had not yet retrieved body or vessel, and a flyover of the boat confirmed the report of the bodies, which came from the tanker… or so it seems to me.

Coincidently?
From May 2014:
French Sailor Spent 3 Weeks on Sailboat Drifting in Seychelles Waters
THE OWNER of the sailboat Allegro, French sailing enthusiast David Mal, spent three weeks drifting in Seychelles waters after the mast of his boat broke. He was rescued by a merchant ship and taken to Madagascar, Seychelles News Agency (SNA) has learnt.

Well, the title for a start. Could be bad syntax I suppose…

Re: Man and dog found dead on yacht

The man could have died of heart attack, stroke etc. The dog was then doomed.

Yeps. Heart attack in the act of flaking the main, causing collapse into the stays, head injury with unconscious bleeding there, followed by brief recovery and final collapse in the cockpit, occasioning death of dog by dehydration?

Can anyone read the name off the stern? It doesn't look like Allegro but I can't resolve on my computer.

I thought the same. And no, I can't either.
