How old is your boat?

Answers in the recent "How Old Is Your Standing Rigging" thread got me wondering what the actual age breakdown of CF boats are. I see there was a poll thread on this back in 2015. I'm going to make this a big more detailed, but we should be able to compare this poll to that previous one from six years ago.

1976 Westsail 32...44 years and counting

1969 Tartan 34c. At least the hull is.... all systems, including the motor have been rebuilt along the way.

Boat was launched August 1990, at Mooloolaba, Qld., Australia.

All rigging wire is less than 10 yrs. old. New forestay and furler this year.

Jim inspects the rig frequently.

Norseman 447 built 1982. I bought it in 1998 with rod rigging of indeterminate age. I replaced it several years ago because its' age made me nervous. It all looked OK when removed, but .....

I'm surprised. I though the average would be less, but the result is a testament to good care.


I'll admit I've been on the younger side through my last 4 boats (12-20 when purchased), but that is because multihulls are evolving more rapidly and the 30-40 year-old ones are from a completely different design era.

1978 Tayana 37 - 42 years old

Catalina 470, 4 years old. I'm in the change sooner camp, rigging seems important to me. Just had a friend have a norseman tball break halfway across the Pacific, looked fine when he left Panama.

1969 Westerly Centaur. It has allegedly spent more than half of that on the hard here in Upstate NY, in the same yard. She's been "rescued" at least twice.

1981 built so having her 40th next year.

1995 Reinke Super 10 cutter built of aluminium, original Mercedes motor, not sure about rig in Fiji.

And in my home town Wellington I have Footprints a 1970 Raven 26 sloop built of GRP, repowered 2014, rigging redone 2000
