Thirty years ago is 1990. Nearly 75% of respondents here say they own boats that were built in 1990 or earlier. And nearly 30% have boats built earlier than 1980.
What effect are we seeing here? Economics? Sheer numbers of boats built in those times vs later? Demographics?

And, I would add, quality. These older boats are the byproduct of robust economic expansion and the growth of the middle class that could afford them. A bygone era which was characterized by pride of craftsmanship, a fair shake for the working man, honesty, responsibility and respect. All of these qualities are reflected in the boats of that era: Well built, seaworthy/seakindly, often stunningly beautiful designs that took care of their crews.
The fact that the collective wisdom of the experienced sailors on this board still overwhelmingly prefers such boats speaks volumes.
