How can I get in contact with the owner of a German registered sailing boat?

Hi there,

I would like to get in contact with the owner of a German registered sailing boat.

I have had a look at the German ships registry but that looks like it is only for large / commercial boats.

Is there a central database where I can get the contact details of the owner of the boat? I know the name of the boat. Or perhaps they can pass on a message or provide my contact details to the owner.

Many thanks.

Track and contact German sailing associations. Many owners belong to at least one. Ask the association to pass over your data. They may.

According to the German law you do have two options to register your boat, while both options requesting the name of the boat and its port of registry to be shown on the transom.

You may contact the BSH (German authority drafting one of the two registry options). More details to be found under http://www.bsh.de/en/Application_for...cate/index.jsp

Google the sailing clubs in the city bring the port of registry.

You may checkout yacht forum (http://yacht.de/forum.html) and post a request. For sure type and name shall be mentioned.

BTW: what is the name, the type and the port of registry you're looking up?

Good luck!

Data protection laws would and should prevent the release of contact details. They could contact the boat of course without contacting you.

... beside the name, do you also have the home port of the boat? Do you know the type?

There are basically two active German sailing forums, you could try it there.

www.segeln-forum.de and YACHT-FORUM

goboatingnow is right, from 'official site' you will probably not get the details due to data protection laws ...

Regards,

Carsten

Re: How can I get in contact with the owner of a German registered sailing boat?

Hi guys. Thanks for the suggestions and pointers. It has given me a starting point. Yes I do have the make and model of the boat. I do not have the home port (it is not noted on the boat).

I am also aware that data protection laws may prevent any database from sharing the ownership information with me. However, in many countries home/property ownership details are freely available so I guess it could be the same for boat ownership details.

Thanks again...
