Haulout Boatyards

WANTED - any information and recommendation for East Coast Florida Boatyards - for DO_IT_YOURSELF sailor. Am looking for a working man's yard that is reputable and Honest. Am a small sailboat owner and a slow worker so I need a few weeks in the yard. Would appreciate information, location and names of personnel at yards that are cruiser friendly. Thanks

I'd consider, depending where you are located, the Green Cove Springs shipyard. They are big enough to haul you out and provide space for a do-it-yourselfer. Can't remember the fees but they are cheaper than most.

Cape Marina in Cape Canaveral is one. There is also a boatyard next to Titusville Mun. Marina (Westland?) that may still allow DIY.

I have hauled at cracker Boys yard in Riviera Beach, FL, by lake Worth.
It was always the cheapest yard for do it yourself. They allowed living aboard while working. Havent been there in quite a few years, but check them out.
There is a 7-11 type store a few blocks away, but be sure to watch your back at nite! Great neighborhood!
Not sure if the same welder is there, but the one I delt with gave me a written "Quote" for $58 to weld a plate on the bottom of a fuel tank I cut apart and prepped, then wanted to charge me $175 when it was done. What does "Quote" mean to you. After I calmed down, I talked to the yard Mgr, and he talked to Russ, then told me to go pay him $58 and pick my tank up. AH

There can be a current running there. I usually asked to be hauled first thing in the morning, and would pull in to the travel lift slip at nite when the tide was slack.

There are also a few Marine stores near by, and a used gear place called Sea Chest.

Know you said Fl but St marys boatyard in st marys Ga(20 mi from jacksonville).The prices are reasonable Staff very helpful & live abord ok.Mostly sailboat people there just got off there & was as enjoyable as a haulout can be.

Doing a bottom job right now in Ft.Pierce Florida. Their prices seem fair and they were the closest ones I could find that could pull my 38 Cat and let me do the work myself. I like Playboy marine and would have used them but they're a foot too narrow and couldn't pull a Cat. Too bad cause they are only 7 nm from my dock. I'd caution useing Marine Max which is right next door who can pull a Cat but they won't let you work on your boatyourself. They use alot of fuzzy math when it comes to payment to re-splash. I'd rather take he 90nm trip north to avoid them. When I'm done I'll post the results and the prices.

Oasis Boatyard & Marina, San Sebastian River St Augustine, is our first choice in NE Florida. You can work on your own boat, and there are fine floating docks at monthly rates only. The owner and staff are first rate. A good place to work on your boat and get any help you might need.
