GPS / GEO tracking devices

A friend lost temporarily a secured and locked dingy last night. They got very lucky and found it quickly. I have a rather high end dinghy and have thought a need to add a geo tracker to her for travel later this spring.
What do any of you recommend for electronic tracking into the Caribbean of assets?
I have experience with the original SPOT gps vehicle trackers.
I want to be able to lead my band of banditos or local law enforcement to the repositioned asset where possible.
Thanks for your info regarding GPS devices vs security measures. 😬🙄🤣

Re: GPS / GEO tracking devices

I just did some research, and the SPOT looks like the most viable solution. All the others had there various drawbacks. Problem with SPOT is it's going to cost you $200 up front and then $200/month. In researching all the others, they are pretty much in the same ballpark.

Take a look at (click on) the Marco Polo Tracking System.

FWIW...

That's pretty cool, but best case scenario is it works up to 2 miles. I don't think this is practical for a stolen tender...
