Re: Girl Killed by 3 Sharks in Bahamas

A lot of posts were deleted. Reasoning is they weren’t “nice”.
A lot had to be deleted not because they were bad, but they had quoted one that was, and what was quoted had to go.
Guys play nice please, we don’t like handing out strikes or a ban.

Somewhat over 4.3 billion. So 4,300 million.
But time is a variable; not a constant, so to speak.

People have history for only a few thousand years.

Re: Girl Killed by 3 Sharks in Bahamas

I’ve read most of the comments. Some more interesting than others.
I started spearfishing in South Africa in the early 1970’s. Since then I’ve spearfished, freedived and profession dived most oceans. I’ve seen all kinds of sharks and and in great numbers. We have also been cruising now for a number of years.
What I do know from South Africa is that if you start feeding wild animals, it becomes a problem animal and it has to be put down. I cannot imagine that sharks are any different.
There are spots in South Africa where we used to spearfish. They do the shark diving thing there now and you cannot spearfish there anymore.
I also have a couple of friends that has been bitten by sharks, mostly Great Whites. Most of them survived. The majority had no fish or blood on them at the time. From their stories it is not possible to come to any conclusions.
We have also tried the Shark Shield that are now manufactured in Australia. The results are mixed. The one spear fisherman saw a Tiger shark tailwalking when he switched it on. This was off Richards Bay. Another diver was pushed all the way from the bottom to the surface while spearfishing off Cape Point. Luckily the boat was right there. The shark pod gave him a very good shock when he jumped on the boat so they are sure it was working.

Did you get that from the colloquialism or from my humor?

Some of my children didn't understand the meaning of "shrink". We had hundreds of teens over 30 years as a foster family.

Poor one. Very sad. The person could have been busy exploring something and so she missed the early warming signs. (?)

Tigers are said to attack - BY MISTAKE - so they will go after you assuming you are a seal or another edible animal (known cases of attacking but soon abandoning, surfers).

Very sad accident. I hope it will be as isolated as any previous cases.

Re: Girl Killed by 3 Sharks in Bahamas

Snorkeling off Deep Water Caye Bahamas our group of 10 had an aggressive encounter with a black tip. The shark singled out the largest member of our group, a guy who was 6'4 and full of muscles. Too bad for the shark. It attacked him jaws open 4 times. He punched it in the nose each time and it finally gave up!

Maybe he should have poked it in the eye with his thumb.
