Re: Getting to Easter Island After Panama Canal

As part of my own research, I calculated the distances from point to points I expected to sail. Here are a few:

Panama City, Panama (9°04'17"N 79°23'00"W ) to Galapagos Islands = 984 Miles Mag Heading 230.5° SW

Galapagos Islands (0°54'37"S 89°37'03"W) to Easter Island = 2233 Miles Mag Heading 210.8° SW

Panama City (9°04'17"N 79°23'00"W ) to Easter Island (27°09'53"S 109°25'19"W) = 3203 Miles Mag Heading 222.2° SW

The most detailed account of a voyage from Galapagos Islands to Easter Island I have found so far is on a yacht sailor's blog. It is a good reading resource for that trip (I hope to make some day too). Well worth reading to get a sense of what to expect when traveling that route via sailboat.

Too late to edit but a small correction... I would suggest being in the longitude of Easter island before you get south of 20*S.

Also re '40 days from there to Chile'.... I was thinking Tahiti to Chile.... seems to take people as long to get from Tahiti as it does from NZ.

The wind map is interactive. You can zoom in & out & rotate the planet. You can also click on a spot to get the actual lat & lon
