Reading between the lines in the report of the trip from
Caribbean to
Netherlands, seems to me the teenagers were crew to some experienced sailors who took the vessel across, maybe some were even just passengers.
Notes like “runs five educational voyages for about 150 students in all each year”
and “Crossing the Atlantic is nothing new for the Wylde Swan, which has made the trip about 20 times” sort of takes the gloss of the perception that the teenagers were in charge of the vessel. Almost certainly the vessel was managed by skilled sailors.
But then, maybe I just mis-read the article. Or perhaps I just expect too much from teenagers
This voyage doesn’t really compare to that proposed by the Dutchmen in
Australia.
