Dutch backpackers buy boat to escape from Covid-19 in Australia
https://www.sbs.com.au/language/engl...mK0ikNwt-0MeMY
Dutchman Jordy van der Voort and compatriot Daniel Wiessing are preparing to sail from Australia to the Netherlands, a 13,000 nautical miles journey, but first, they are ironing out a few issues one of which is that neither man has much sailing experience.

They will have plenty of experience by the time they get there....if ever they do.

watch couple youtube channels and off you go!
lifelong politicians stuffed up corona stuff, so experience doesnt seem to count anything. Could be even negative for you as you think you got smarter.

I think that article was written by a 10 year old. Must have never heard of Cape Horn or Cape of Good Hope? Not sure I would be sailing to Panama from Australia at the start of winter either?
I wonder if these clowns even slipped or got that Ferro yacht surveyed?
Cheers

It looks like the boat was painted with a mop. I would advise these "cloggys" to buy a huge life insurance policy.

We'll find out soon enough, but it looks like the boat will be able to take more than the crew. With any luck, it will get them home safely.

Well I hope that, by the time they get here, the rules have relaxed a bit.
Currently both French and Belgian waters are closed for all non-commercial traffic. So the last mile might become interesting.

I've heard Christians say that their lord looks after drunks and fools.
They've stocked up on rum - check that box.

Yes, with regard to a small private cruising boat the crews lives are normally the most valuable item for pirates.
They are normally held for ransom payment.

And inexperienced sailors plan to hand steer all the way. I'll bet they abandon the trip in about a week.

Re: Dutch backpackers buy boat to escape from Covid-19 in Australia
Why be so critical about these boys, they are about to take an adventure that many only dream about. I have personally known people who have undertaken a voyage around the world when starting with little or no sailing experience and were successful. That boat looks like it will take much more of a beating than it’s crew. Best of luck and fair winds to you guys.

And I echo that! Jeez the negativity and name calling in previous posts. Sad. Sailing around the world is not brain surgery guys. I wish them a great adventure with much learning and as far as I know the Netherlands will allow entry to those holding Dutch passports. Panama? Not sure but could be a problem.

Re: Dutch backpackers buy boat to escape from Covid-19 in Australia
This could be interesting. If the do learn for a month with a good teacher and work on the boat to learn the systems and get a self steering wind vane they may have a decent chance.
BTW. Has anybody heard what happened to the Dingbat girls who set sail from Hawaii and got lost for 5 months?
