There are reports of someone being injured by a falling wall.

Our friends who's boat is in Abel point marina checked during the eye. Their boat is still secure and afloat, however the marina arm is starting to come apart. There are big yachts which have come loose pressed against their arm.

They're not optimistic about their boat's chances of surviving round two.

Re: Cyclone Debbie

I can't believe

1) no one killed
2) Hamilton Island still has 60 knot wind gusts at 8pm. Love the way their recording kit has slowly fallen apart. http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ60801/IDQ60801.94368.shtml
3) Airlie marina exists at all.
4) the number of Catamarans in Mackay marina compared to monohulls.

There is a mono in the travel hoist, wonder if that rocks side to side sitting on the keel.

Very sad to see the two yachts wrecked, they are someones pride and joy

Not if it's anchored from the stern.

Re: Cyclone Debbie

Very sad day for those that have had there boats destroyed or damaged. The loss of Abel Point and Port of Airlie, and quite possibly Hamilton Island, marinas - in part at least - could have a long lasting effect on the region.

For us, our old girl survived tied down to concrete blocks on the hard in Mackay. One very restless night last night after discovering a dislodged jacking prop late that afternoon from the wind build up shaking the boat and a forecast storm surge that would have seen us floating, cradle and all. Have to say I felt far more comfortable when the boat was in the marina during the last blow, although in both cases the intensity of the winds was far less then that experienced further north.

Now just have to wait for that hip pocket pain come next insurance renewal...

I highly doubt you have ever been anchored in a cyclone or hurricane.

Let me rephrase that.... edit out the doubt: You have never been anchored in any hurricane or cyclone.

Only a fool would do that.
How did you make out when you anchored in one?

Markj did very nicely and was not that foolish to anchor by the stern.

Re: Cyclone Debbie

Considering the wind at 142 knots I think Hammo's marina has done all right.

Just can't get over the number of hours it was pelted with gusts over 100 knots. It certainly was stuck in the eye-wall the whole time.

Re: Cyclone Debbie

Looks good considering. I wonder what the wind speed was. Those palms wouldn't have survived 142 kts and maybe they didn't. Don't know when the pictures were taken.

Was surprised to see even a mainsail pulled off the boom and billowing out.
