I couldn't disagree with you more on the subject of GPS systems. And it sounds like you know more about GPS than I do.

I noticed on your profile that you're a "naval officer." So do you work on a bridge of a Canadian Naval vessel? And what's your rank?

Lieutenant. I drive a desk now, but keep my hand in - spent last week driving a training vessel around the Gulf Islands. It's like having my own fully crewed 76 foot motoryacht and getting paid to sail it! Spent 12 of the past 18 years at sea in a variety of ships, as a Bridge Watchkeeping Officer and Navigating Officer, among other roles. Here to learn about cruising in small boats for post-retirement plans. What did you do, CaptainK?

Satnav wasn't so bad. We had that available commercially, and at the time it beat Omega and/or a sextant. I never could get the Omega system to actually give me a fix!

I was a enlisted man.

I didn't work on no bridge of a warship. But I did work in a important part of the ship's mission. When it pertains to "flight operations!!"

gps switched off

I have read of cases were localised interence of GPS systems/receivers has occured. Their is a underground/blackmarket system available for localised GPS system interference and the case I read of happened off the Irish Coast last year. These systems i guess have been developed from the same systems such as Radar jammers etc?

I'll try and find the article I read it in.
