Marathon / Derelict Boats

Today, the po po was here checking around for derelict boats, but only those on anchor apparently.

Oddly, the one guy I saw cited was in a small boat where the hull needs painting and in general needs a lot of work but is anchored well, removed the sails (as you should if you are going to not be using them for a long time), and generally keeps his boat very clean.

The boat in front of me literally has junk (I can't identify the what most of it is but its not nautical in nature - one is a 50 gallon barrel with holes in it) strewn about on deck and a rudder with a big hole it (amongst other issues) and they did not get a ticket.

I don't get it.

Probably has something to do with the legal definition of an abandoned or derelict boat. If you are expecting clear and apparent logic in the way laws are written or enforced, you're in for a big disappointment.

Not sure... I stayed away... but we clearly heard him yell "M****** F******R!!!" as he grabbed the citation!

Maybe that's what he was cited for. Anyone who would yell that at the Coasties that are giving him the citation may very well have been giving them some "attitude" while they were checking him out. Like any good LEOs, the Coasties can always find something to cite you for, if you give them a reason to want to.

Yeah, nothing like a "good" leo or coastie to kick a man when he is down on his luck. Prolly doing the best that he can.

Last time I called someone in law enforcement "MF" I spent the night in jail. Fortunately the judge dismissed the citation. I think he agreed with me !!!

Good thing the guy didnt put his hand up and yell Mfer...a "good" leo or coastie would of probably shot him. 100 us citizen so far this year killed by LEO...maybe they can break their record of @1000 from last year.

I guess they figure if a boats on a mooring and it fits the definition of a derelict boat, it can't be, because it's putting money into the hands of the city. But if that same boat is anchored out........

You are most likely right. I was thinking the same thing. No doubt, some interesting boats (and characters) in Boot Key.

Just a thought, but I would think before making a bunch of crazies anti-LEO posts details of the citation would need to be known.
