Manhattan Anchorage

Can anyone help me with information about the anchorage on the west side of Manhattan just south of Houston and north of the Holland Tunnel? You can see on Google Earth a handful of boats anchored with dinghies tied up to a dock, but I can't find any reference to who controls the dinghy dock or what kind of arrangements need to be made.

Wow, never noticed that before. Seems like you want to contact NYC Downtown Boathouse at 212-6949-3600. You want to ask about Pier 40, where they run a kayaking program.

Let us know what you find out!

I met a sailor that sailed dinghys out of NY City. He said anyone can anchor in between the old dis-used docks on the Hudson. I never tried as I was afraid of what was on the bottom but years ago I used to anchor in the old cut where the Liberty Marina is. Now it's all built up but there used to be a pile of old tugs and dredges in there. I was lucky I didn't pick up a lot of crap there. There's always the worry that these spots have old wire rope and god knows what on the bottom.

Thanks. I'll call them and let you know what I find out. There is an extra digit in the phone number in your post. What are the middle three numbers?

Whoops, never mind. I see they made the mistake themselves on the web site.

Yes, and I did not notice the error when I cut and pasted. Try 212-694-3600.

What did you find out? I am sailing down next week towards Annapolis and then Carribean and planned on stopping in Manhattan a few days?
