Crossing The Atlantic West Bound

Hi,

We are currently in the process of planning our circumnavigation and I am getting some conflicting information on best time to cross the Atlantic.

We will be coming out of the Med and originally was planning to cross the Atlantic heading for Bermuda and then East Coast of US (New York) however it seems as though staying this far up is tricky with managing winter storms and the hurricane season.

We are now planning on staying south and heading for Caribbean.

Jimmy Cornell's book suggests best time to travel from med to Bermuda is June/July but then states tropical storm season is June - Nov. I am guessing the June/July gives you best chance of avoiding late winter storms and early hurricanes.

Other guides talk about crossing the Atlantic in December but I guess this is for crossings further South I.e. the Caribbean which would be less effected by Winter then the US East Coast.

Would love to hear advice on crossing Atlantic and whether or not I should write off East coast of US and just head straight for Caribbean.

Boat is 44ft FArr

Regards Anthony

Re: Crossing The Atlantic West Bound

If to the Caribbean sometime after mid to late November and right thru to January are probably the best months but not the only ones.
