any thoughts on cruising Brazil

currently sitting Cape Verde Isl and looked at a map and my gosh Brazil is only 1,599nm away. BUT - I do not have a cruising guide so my usual info source is not available.
Did talk to a guy here and said Brazil's north coast is a bit dodgy in places and was not exactly upbeat about it and he is from Brazil. Generally we ignore such advise or listen and do research but the last time we did it was Egypt and that was a disaster.

SO anyone got any thoughts on it. Not in a rush but something to consider.
