Lakes in Southern Poland

Does anyone have any experience of boating on any lakes in Southern Poland?

We are thinking of re-locating to somewhere near Krakow, but before moving I want to make sure there is somewhere where we can at least get out on the water as we will be hundreds of miles from the coast!

The Vistula (Wisla) looks like it is probably out as other than the locked section through central Krakow I'm told it is too shallow with loads of Sandbanks (although we would have a very shallow draft boat). The reason the locked section is out, is because there is a 5km/h speed limit and whilst on a sailing boat I'm fine at that speed (obviously!) on a RIB it is just too frustrating!

From what I can see there are only a few options:

Czorsztyn (looks good for sailing, but from what I can see powerboats are banned)
Roznowskie (sailing and powerboating allowed from what I can see)
Dobczyckie (sailing and powerboating allowed from what I can see)
Zywiec (sailing and powerboating allowed from what I can see)
Gozalkowice (looks like sailing and powerboating were allowed, but now banned)
Mucharskie (new artificial lake, planned to be completed next year, but the website doesn't really give much information, Home | Jezioro Mucharskie)

Any help would be appreciated!

I remember most of these places and even places farther south ie Zakopany,Keilsy and I never once saw a sailboat, but up north now thats a different story, south of Karcow you get into the Tatery Mts(sp?) and I didnt even see a large lake there..

Re: Lakes in Southern Poland

Thank you, appreciate the help, but it looks like that is all offshore, rather than inland orientated!

Interesting sites though!

I believe the PYA doesn't offer assistance with Powerboating, just sailing :-(

(Sailing resources are a lot easier to find in Poland)!

you might try contacting some of the campsites around the lakes you wish to visit,i'm sure they will be able to supply relevent info re powerboating

i have just returned from hungary, and their seems to be very little restrictions on ballaton and the danube for private pleasurecraft on the inland waterways

Re: Lakes in Southern Poland

Yeah I've contacted some of the local councils and have some details of sailing clubs, but I was hoping someone on here may have some personal experience :-)

The Danube is far better for boating than the Vistula, but unfortunately isn't really an option :-(

I have seen those long narrow barge boats on the Vistula around old town in Warsaw, maybe thats the way to go?

Too far north unfortunately!

There are loads of options up north, its the South where they seem to be a bit scarce annoyingly :-(
