Sticky for - Lithium Power Systems sub

I've read about a hundred articles and posts on LiFePO4 tech and see more and more new questions at CF almost daily.

CF, and in particular, THIS sub, could benefit from a sticky post with links to the most common questions.

Links like
Beginners guide to LiFePO4
Moving to LiFePO4? - Where to start
Charging methods
Design
SOC, DoD, Float, etc.

Also, I appreciate the contributions from Jedi, Rivet, the Mods, and all of the others who have posted their systems and advice. I've learned quite a bit here that just isn't readily available elsewhere.

Re: Sticky for - Lithium Power Systems sub

I think a sticky would likely turn into another 500-1000 post thread, with people arguing over the correct way. And that wouldn't be any more helpful than the existing threads.

I may be one of the few that does. But, I was thinking of Posts, Blogs, PDF's... and everything in 1 place.
It just seems like a good idea to me, but if it can't be done at CF then that's a shame.

Re: Sticky for - Lithium Power Systems sub

If someone wants to write a beginners guide they are welcome do so and we will consider it for a sticky.

The are some problems though. It's a rapidly changing subject with new manufacturers seemingly popping up weekly and others just vanishing in a puff of smoke. New ideas coming along that even challenge the experts.

Lets be honest it wasn't until the big price changes started to bring Lithium into the realms were most of us could afford to buy into the technology. Therefore estimating how long they will last in the hands of the average consumer is still guess work. Come up with what ever you like in a lab, but the real world?

However, if someone writes a really good thread or one that already exists that's worth sticking then let us know.

Pete

^^This^^ For anyone interested in this subject check out the RV forums too. A lot of people there have very similar setups to what many use onboard boats, and there are lots of them working on similar issues.

I also came across a website on you-tube that has a pretty comprehensive explanation and videos that are very beginner friendly and set up in a way thats easy to follow called Explorist Life. They are Victron installs and for camper vans, but its easily copied with other brands and onto boats.

I'm with Kettlewell and Pete. The landscape changes so quickly and there are so many more options. I obviously don't speak for everyone, but, with the prices coming down dramatically, my approach to my system has completely changed over the past couple of years.
