Brown Particles On Water

I’ve seen streams of this in several places up and down the Oz coast, does anyone know what it’s all about? There’s a lot of it near Abbot Pt currently.

Seen something like that in Perth once - We reckon that it was sewerage - Accidental uncleaned discharge

I had thought it was coral spawn, but is probably an algal bloom.

Re: Brown Particles On Water

Swampbush is correct. It's algal bloom. Probably Trichodesmium (sea sawdust), quite common in Qld (and PNG) waters. Capt Cook described them

+1 on algal bloom. Today is the 22nd day of the 6th moon. Last Quarter, so to speak. Neap tides.

Smart corals spawn at spring tides, usually at or just after Full Moon. So on about 15th or 16th day of a moon.

Brown tide

(Red tides are generally "harmful algal bloom" with toxins. Brown tides are more innocuous)

What nobody is going to blame global warming
Why just today I read that was the reason that so far in the US we have had a quiet hurricane season.

That haven for alarmists, Wikipedia manages to sneak it into the end of the Trichodesmium entry:

Likewise, global warming is projected to increase stratification and cause a shallowing of the mixed layer depth. Both of these factors are associated with Trichodesmium blooms and may also cause an increase in the occurrence of blooms in the future. (followed by a citation which doesn't support the contention in the least )

The great thing about Wikipedia is everyone can contribute, submit their own information, and if needed correct the info... rather than just complain that something is incorrect.

The bad thing about Wikipedia is that people with a mission and a lot of time on their hands will just keep reverting corrections.

Yep, definitely either global warming or water born effluent from coal fired power stations or radiation converting bacteria from nuclear power stations.
