Guadalupe Island / Pacific Baja / Mexico

After 5 years of cruising the Sea of Cortez/Gulf of California, we are now planning on bashing home in July. I've done the bash 4 times, so I am familiar with the direct Mag Bay/Turtle Bay/Ensenada route. I'm thinking about options to sail towards Guadalupe Island. Anyone done this?

Specifically, what are the chances of actually sailing say from Cabo or Mag Bay to Guadalupe Isl? I noticed a couple of anchorages on the south, south-west side of the island. Is anchoring allowed? Any details on the anchorages? Is this excursion worth the extra 100+ km?

Regarding snorkeling/diving -- I read that Mexico has shut-down the shark viewing tours. Are there still tours? Would it be possible to sign-on and join? Would we be insane to snorkel knowing there are sharks in the area?

Any other considerations?
Thank you
Don

From what I can find, it is basically closed to all tourism including diving and any land access. Marine transit is allowed but no discharge, lights at night etc and unclear whether anchoring would be permitted or not. See:

I would think that leaving from Cabo or Mag Bay would be fairly uncomfortable, as I'm sure you are aware. If you are planning on returning to Mexico at some point a better plan might be to sail from Ensenada after checking in. That would give you a nice broad reach to Guadalupe. A lot of people have anchored there in the past and I am not aware that there are any restrictions in place now, but I could be wrong.

Folks on blog Little Cunning Plan sailed to Guadeloupe legally a few years ago. Perhaps the blog (or authors) have info for you:

Thanks for the info -- conditions for crew joining us for the return was to swim with the sharks. This does not appear to be an option and is a long way out of the way home.
