Bugs in Clear Lake Texas

I have a boat in SoCal, but am considering buying one to keep in Texas. I live in Houston, so am used to the heat. Can anyone tell me if they can sit out and enjoy themselves in the Clear Lake area without being bothered by bugs? Is there usually a breeze or is it just uncomfortably hot for 6 months. Love the boat in LA, but I only get to use it a fraction of what I can in Texas. Just wondering if ill be miserable on Clear Lake. Thanks

Hi, just a suggestion. You may want to check with the local chamber of commerce in Clear Lake. You will then likely get first hand info. Maybe worth a try?

If you buy a mosquito net of double bed size, with a little fiddling, it can be turned into a fold-up-able outside cockpit enclosure. If you soak it in Permethrins solution first, it will even kill the bugs that land on it. When I made our first one, (and in successive ones), I used old rope to hold it down to make a "seal" at the bottom. All our boats have had dodgers, so that was where the "draping" began.

So, even if there are bugs at Clear Lake (seems pretty likely to me!), there is a way to sit out in the dusk and not be eaten alive.

Come on down and see! We've lived here 5 years (just moved to the boat full time, but the rest of the time we lived 2 blocks from the marina) and I can say for certain it's no worse than Houston, or other areas of coastal Texas. They're are mosquitoes all over. 90% of the time the wind blows and you can sit outside. Like everywhere I've lived, around sundown it can get buzzy.

We sail the whole Texas coast every year just about and I only know one "unbearable" location, Double Bayou! Only go in dead of winter. Also Army Hole can be bad in the summer if there's been rain.

Worse than bugs by far is that it's not that great a place to sail. But if you're here anyway, it's far better than nothing.

It's hot and mosquito infested 8 months of the year.. Go to LA...

If you live in Houston I'd think you'd know better.
