Timothy Shaddock and dog rescued

https://www.9news.com.au/national/sy...d-7006262ef232

It would appear he did not only lose electronics but also his rig.

I just spoke with him and specifically asked if he lost his rig. His answer was NO. He and the fishing boat both were near or in hurricane Calvin He lost his tillerpilot off Baja, he was hit by 2v ery large waves near or in the ITCZ. One broke his rudder assembly, the other dislodged his main halyard. He went up the mast to fix it but unclear if he got it. Tym is a lifetime competent sailor. He just ran into tough conditions

Re: Timothy Shaddock and dog rescued

Hi, I'm an old friend of Tim's & I'm wondering how to make contact with him? I'd like to wish him well from myself & others.

Can you offer any advice please?

Thank you, unfortunately we only have old numbers & we were relying on FB until Tim deleted his account. Perhaps you would be kind enough to forward a message?

Re: Timothy Shaddock and dog rescued

I’m glad Tim survived. From news photos, he looks like the experience aged him 10 years but I’m sure he will bounce back.

His boat looks like a Warram cat.
As mentioned above, Tim is an experienced sailor.
Strange there is no mention of an EPIRB.
And no sat phone or passage plan with friends on shore?
Hopefully the details will come out in due course for us to learn from.

Photos in the news report show his mast still standing.

That's all Tiki's have, the gaff wing sail does not require a boom..

Re: Timothy Shaddock and dog rescued

Looks like Tim didn’t pack himself a razor or an electric clipper. To me, that’s a pretty essential part of living aboard. When that much hair grows, it makes you a little bit crazy lol.

Pretty good survival skills at sea. I’m surprised he was able to catch enough fish.
