Re: Simplicity: Yacht Owners Feared Dead After Escapees Recaptured (Grenada)
Do we know what happened on the yacht, what weapons may or may not have been aboard or used? How the couple reacted, what defense the tried?
I'm not sure a discussion of appropriate use of defensive force even applies here, at least not if we don't know what happened. Caught be surprise by some stronger people who got a few punches in, that might not even matter. I have to believe the couple did fight for their lives, and simply lost.
And not knowing the circumstances, it is difficult to know if them doing anything different would have helped.

At this point, based on the information that has been released, it seems likely that the couple were surprised after the boat had been boarded given there was quite a bit of blood in the stateroom. A good assumption is that that knives where taken in from the galley and used against the couple.
Some people will break into homes not carrying a weapon since it can be a lessor charge than carrying a weapon if caught. They will just get a weapon from the kitchen to use...
If one is surprised, one is very much at a disadvantage even with skills and weapons for defense. Thus, don't get surprised. There a plenty of choke points on a boat one can use to one's advantage, but one has to plan on what one will do in advance, be prepared and not be surprised.
Hopefully, we will learn more, as horrible as it will be learn what happened to the victims, but thinking about a boarding scenario, and how to defend against it, should already be in process.

Re: Simplicity: Yacht Owners Feared Dead After Escapees Recaptured (Grenada)
Remember the main points for self defense on a boat that have proven 100% efficient:
1. Delay entry. This alone may repel the attackers but at least it will alert you and give you time to take action.
2. Alarm. Create siren and strobe light at point of entry triggered by an emergency switch in the owners cabin. Press this first when they start kicking in the companionway bars.
3. Arm yourself. Unless you are Bruce Lee, consider the attacker’s stronger than you or possibly armed. Make the self defense plan that includes making clear to the attackers that their demise is likely if they don’t retreat immediately. You can do anything from throwing kisses to spraying CS gas through an opening to being ready with the cleaver or any other weapon you feel allows you to repel the attack.

I encounter this stance again and again and am completely flabbergasted, even disgusted I think, by it. Even a mouse will put up a defense, it must be a genetic mutation splitting paths in the human evolution. I think I can guess which branch will be the dead end…

I, of course, agree 100%. If self-defense was not the oldest of all human rights, and thus not pertinent, then human civilizations, based on laws, would never have risen.

Your weaponised misuse of the term “woke” [as a skunk phrase *], to insult people [on the progressive left] is less persuasive, than your actual argument[s] [which have some merit] .
In simple terms, “woke” just means [in black slang] being politically conscious and aware, as in awakened [shortened from woken or woke(n) up].
The literal meaning of "woke" would be “awakened”, and it’s opposite would be "asleep”.
But, now the word has been co-opted [misappropriated] as a political slogan, on the right, to galvanize the conservative base, around their toxic culture war issues.
* Such terms are known as “skunk terms”. Phrases/words that are increasingly used, in such toxic ways, that they “stink” too much to be used, in their original contexts.
BTW:
Q: What do you call a wolf, that is woke?
A: Awarewolf

It is actually the woke themselves taking this stance. I am merely repeating it, not making it up…

There seems to have been a misunderstanding.
--CF is a privately owned forum. The owner makes the rules.
--Moderators are tasked with enforcing the rules everyone agrees to when they join CF. We are aware that not everyone reads the rules, but we do expect our members to follow them.
--This is the rule relative to posting about weapons, as it is written: Discussions about politics, weaponry and religion are permitted only in association with the topic of this forum and will be closed or removed if they become disruptive.
--We understand that what happened aboard Simplicity was awful, and shocking to the members, AND we are still tasked with helping people follow our rules. There are other places to discuss guns and how to use them and how to tell when you must use one, etc., etc. But when the posting drifts to generalities, or causes disruption, the mods will close the threads.
.....

Another bunch of non relevant posts about politics and weaponry have been deleted.
As the mods have not received the required cooperation regarding sticking to the rule of [CF] law, the thread has been closed.
