LMAO - that is funny and they should be prosecuted for a nuisance call.

Agree, I see nicely deployed fenders but not an anchor on the bow.

Two visibly undamaged sails..

Intact rigging..

Three sailors without obvious life threatening emergency..

Question: if they were rescued then what happened to the boat?

Hm... the word that comes to mind is "pathetic".

Pathetic seamanship, but almost worse - pathetic reporting.

I don't get why people buy sailboats and then don't learn how to sail. If you just want to motor around there are much better options. You can even get a boat with two motors.

Re: Another Big Rescue From a Sailboat

From the title, I was hoping for a heartwarming tale of an experienced sailor rushing to the aid of some clueless buffoon in a small outboard.

Disappointing. Likewise the (lack of) reporting. Presumably they towed the boat back to shore where it could be sold to someone who knows how to use it.

Frankly the conditions didn't look that bad in the pic. I might have done a stern tow, but they could have towed it on the hip, almost where they were in the pic.

Re: Another Big Rescue From a Sailboat

The current and wind combo in the Hudson can make it impossible to make forward progress in a small boat.

However, judging by the choppiness, it looks like wind against current, and they should have been able to handle it in either direction.

Storm surge projections for the Hudson much closer to the ocean predict 4'-6' waves around twice per thousand major storms.

Just looking at the photo which is supposed to have been taken during the rescue I see what could charitably be described as "light chop".

Yep, 6" to MAYBE a foot, and it a Sailboat for heaven's sake . . . they probably still can't figure out why those two white awnings are mounted on a VERTICAL pole . . .
