This dock is/was owned by Jackson county and should have met certain fire standards. They will assume the liability and any criminal charges laid against them.

Are there criminal charges laid against them? How do you know they will assume the liability? Do the investigators know how it started? Do you know what those fire standards are? How do you know they didn't meet those fire standards?

Before a dock is built, the Tennessee Valley Authority has to give it its stamp of approval through a 26a permit. According to the TVA website, it has authority over construction aspects like the size of the dock - where it is placed and how it connects to the shore. TVA does no* regulate fire safety plans.


Neither does the State Fire Marshal's office. A spokesperson confirmed that they do not inspect docks as a general rule, but they will upon request or if they receive a complaint.


OHSA requires an exit strategy = ie someplace to run - it didn't meet that standard. When both ends of the dock is engulfed and boats around you are burning......

What dock would meeting this standard with both ends burning?? None that I have been on....

Seems most catastrophic multi boat fires are under sheds.

i have never known propane to spontaneously burn without use.. dark night and so many boats was more likely electrical and on a cold night the system overload can and will cause a fire. in darkness. with no one awake.
what ever the reason for the fire is a problem for the inspectors to solve.
once the cause is identified we will know.
