Re: What price for quick deal?

Dieter,
This is a bit off topic. What boatyard and city did you haul in? Was it satisfactory? Approximate cost per foot? Any taxes due ? I would like to sail up, leave it over the winter and sail home the next summer. Thanks!

In 2015 we left Denmark to sail around the Atlantic.
Great times!
We made it as far as Nova Scotia before Covid19 closed all borders.
No sailing this year! And next?
Life goes on, plans need to be changed. If we can’t go 2021 we must sell the boat.

I need help to put a price on our Pinta for a fast sale in early spring.

Greetings from Denmark

Dieter

If the vessel has been removed from the EU since 2015 it has lost its EU VAT status; any vessel that has been exported for more than 3 years would be required to have VAT paid yet again upon return entry to the EU, unless it is imported under temporary admission which avails a non-resident owner of the vessel to have free circulation in the EU for 18 months before the vessel must be discharged by leaving the EU customs territory to a foreign place or port.

So basically the vessel no longer retains EU VAT paid status.

Re: What price for quick deal?

I suggest that you post a new thread requesting recommendations for yacht brokers in Nova Scotia that you could contract and list your vessel for sale through. Since presently you are unlikely to be permitted to enter Canada, you will need local assistance to be able to effectively market it, to arrange for tours and surveys, etc.

Best wishes.

Re: What price for quick deal?

Hi Dieter,

I live in Nova Scotia and may be interested. I tried emailing you a couple months ago but maybe for one reason or another it didn't go through. I'm currently out to sea working but should be home in a couple months. Around the time the snow is gone and easier access to the boat yards. I would like if you could get back to me via email. nateallan@hotmail.com.

Cheers

Nate

I think it would depend on how long its been outside French territory.. technically all one has to do is spend time in places like St Martin or Martinique to reboot the clock.
Many French boats take advantage of this.

Possibly, but problem will certainly occur when it changes hands during a sale. However the one possible way round it might be to import it into Saint Pierre and Miquelon in NF, then sell it on French Soil.

That assumes the French will let the vessel in without requiring import duty and Covid isn't a problem.

IMHO, speak to a broker in Boston. If the market is solid down there, move the boat out of NS.

Re: What price for quick deal?

Hi Folks...

Thank you for reply...

Time is turning... and i lost hope for traveling overseas the comming summer.

I think our biggest problem in selling is that we can not be there. We are not able to help rigging and explaining all the systems on board. We can not offer a wet survey or a test sailing. (Should we pay for rigging and preparation of the boat with a chance that it won’t be sold, and doing al backwards again some month’s later?)
Not for a boat in that price range...
The guys in the marina are great, and there will be lots of hands to help rigging, and i will be there on facetime...

Is it realistic to sell a boat under these conditions?

We bought the boat for 75.000 US$. The last years before we left Denmark, we put a lot of work and money into the Pinta, more then 150.000US$. (See first post)
But hey... we had some great years and we don’t regret!

Is an expectation of 40 - 45.000 US$ under these circumstances to much?

Things i know that needs to be done:
One scepterfoot needs repacking, in heavy weather there comes a little moisture in the front cabine.
The starter battery was weak when we left, it needs replacement, i would replace the battery in front for the anchorwinch also, they are same age.
The bottom would need a light sanding and some spotty paint.
(we gave it 3 layers of blue, and then layers of black. There are a few bluish areas coming through)
New zink for the prop.

The marina took some pictures of the inside...

Dieter
