I am looking for an affordable auto pilot since new ones seem to be quite expensive.
Any help or advice in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Wheel drive, below decks, type of actuator, displacement of vessel, ability to interface with other systems? You may be able to find a very special “only driven on Sunday” unit; but having installed a new below deck unit myself, I’m happy that I stand a good chance of not having to repeat the task in my life. Yes it would be helpful to know if you have a tiller or wheel. In the meantime, take a look at pypilot as an autopilot. They are very good, economical and then you can buy a new AP vs. someone's old unit.
Look for some of the pypilot videos w/it being used on tillers and wheel steering systems.
We have one for a hydraulic system for the last couple of years and it works well.
