1982 Mariner 28

1982 Mariner 28 sailboat. Asking $5,000. Located in Salem Harbor, MA.

Boat is in the water ready to sail. August through October best months for sailing in New England.

Built in New Hampshire using old time New England mastercraft. The boat is in the middle of the upgrade project but change in plans calls for a reluctant sale. As this is a 35 year old inexpensive diamond in the rough it has "the good, the bad and the ugly".

First the good stuff.

Boat comes with a sought after mooring on the Marblehead side of the Salem Harbor, close to shore and to the launch dock. The waiting list in that part of the harbor is 3-4 years and the new mooring would cost at least $2,000 to install. That is if your turn is up years from now. PM me for details on the mooring acquisition.

It also comes with a set of crispy almost new sails (used for less than 10 day trips) - 130% Genoa and main, both by Hood. As well as all the cabin and cockpit cushions, both sets in great condition. Very recent Harken roller furling works flawlessly.

Like new dodger. Also will throw in uninstalled bimini top with all the hardware.

Recently installed used but strong older model refurbished Yanmar (many new parts) 2QM15, a proven work horse of an engine. And also installed prior to launch like new condition 3-blade bronze Michigan prop. 2 batteries with a small solar panel and a 7W charger.

Also comes with older but never connected instruments, autopilot (unknown make and vintage) and older Garmin 120XL GPS.

Access to all the tankage is excellent and makes for an easy DIY installation or replacements.

Basically the asking price is what you would pay for a mooring and the set of new sails meaning that you're getting everything else for free.

The bad: It needs a new floor in the cabin, a day's job for a handy owner as the total floor area is less than 20 sq. feet. Also water tank need to be either cleaned or replaced. And the cabin may benefit from a thorough deep cleaning job.

The ugly: The deck side teak needs to be spruced up or just de-varnished and left gray. That's would be the buyer's choice to make.

No, it is not in a Bristol shape nor is it a total project. It falls somewhere in the middle but the best reasons for the buy are - the mooring, the sails, new dodger and bimini and a set of very good cabin and cockpit cushions. As well as a recently installed 2QM15 Yanmar. These are the major items for any 35 year old boat and even if you gotten a free boat which needed these addressed you'd be looking at $10,000 or more for these upgrades.

Also if you are looking for another type of boat down the road this would be a fast track to get a Salem Harbor mooring well in advance of your final purchase.

PM me if would like to see more pics and/or to arrange a showing. Thank you for your interest.
