Leopards are coming from South Africa, probably alters that equation quite a bit.

31 posts and most are about storage space and not a one about rig spec or performance ratios or sailing ability.

There have been a few posts asking for this and some speculating...but it doesn't seem like anyone has actually sailed a 45 yet. So we wait

Hi Candyman

Could you tell me how much you ended up paying for your new 45. We are going down to talk to Leopard in April so any information would help. Did you manage to negotiate any discount from the list prices of the boat and/or the extras?

The other thing about the 45 was that it is already plumbed for a water maker. It is also pre-wired for solar panels.

Leopard 45 or 40?

At least the Leopard 45 has a 1/2 of an island bed.

The Leopard 40 has a Cave man bed.
This bed will be very hard to make with walls all the way around like that.
They are hard to climb into also with that hard 2"x 4" board at the bottom.

The other thing about the 45.....it can be easily equipped with a bow sprit for a screecher or A sail.

I still can not see why they wouldn't make full island bed on a 45ft cat. And go with less draft maybe

This is very depressing as I thought they all came on their own bottoms.

They used to but a few years back two or three early 44s lost their masts on the way to the BVI.

Re: Leopard 45 or 40?

Why does the 45 have a deeper draft, could it have more keel, could it sail to wind better with less side slip? Just hoping, I would take more draft if it performed better.

There is no factory in China making Leopard catamarans. All the production takes place in Cape Town. A number of years back they started production of the 38/39 boats in China, which did not last too long.

They sure are nice catamarans. I have the L48 and the L46 on my list of potential sailboats. There is one monohull on my list also, but the family prefers the cats though.

I recently had the chance to look through a 48. One thing I really noticed was how narrow the passageway was in each hull.
