Cruising Buzzards Bay to Lady Liberty

We are planning a cruise from Cataumet Ma. to Lady Liberty in NYC. the plan is for 10 - 14 days, travelling the Connecticut coast on the way over, through the east river to NYC, and back via the north Long Island coast.

Our boat is a 37 Ft. Four Winns motor boat, cruising at about 15 MPH, and doing about 40-60 miles per day. And debating whether to tow the dinghy or not.

I would appreciate any comments on the route, or waypoints we should not miss, any experiences or advice on such a cruise.
