Here's to hoping everyone stays safe and doesn't suffer catastrophic loss. Good fortune and may fate be kind to you.

Re: Hurricane Florence
Two hurricanes, a Tropical storm, a subtropical storm and a disturbance with a 70% chance of becoming a tropical storm all at the same time.

Re: Hurricane Florence
At least it's down to a Cat3 now, might re-power on the stream, but at leasst it's not getting at the stream as a Cat4. I am no meteorologist, but depowering is always good.

Re: Hurricane Florence
Jim Carrier, “THE SHIP AND THE STORM”. Without a doubt, the best book I have ever picked up. We have spoken to you about it in the past and had a special interest as we had friends on Guanaha. Thank you Sir, for that read. We keep it on board.
Capt. Guyan March was one hell of a Captain, in a truly impossible no win situation. The way you write makes one feel that he was a friend. Very sad but hard to put down. Still think about the crew, and “MITCH” to this day.

Actually, it’s not. The larger the hurricane, the more difficult it is for it to maintain cat 4 or 5 strength, and Florence has grown dramatically over the last 24 hours with tropical force winds extending out 200 miles. It’s a 400 mile wide hurricane. And the larger the wind field the more water it pushes and the more rain it drops.
While whoever gets hit by the eye may be vaguely happy it’s only cat 3, the rest of the coast will suffer for it.

Damn, that's Irma size ... and it will probably get stronger as it nears the stream. It's been a long time since that coast saw a direct hit.

Re: Hurricane Florence
Anybody know who these guys are? I hope they will be safe. Still safer on a sailboat out at sea than close to shore I guess...

Not in 80’ seas and 100 knot winds.
A different report seemed to suggest that they had time to get out of the way, but there was no detail other than them being directly in the path.

Re: Hurricane Florence
My hope is no one dies from this Monster of a storm. September and October are NOT the months to be across the east coast of the US according to all the Hurricane experts. According to recent History, it sounds "spot on" to me.

Re: Hurricane Florence
Here is the 11pm advisory for hurricane Florence. Some weakening has occurred over the past few hours with maximum sustained winds now at 110 mph, making Florence a strong category 2. Strong winds, storm surge, and flooding from rainfall are still potential impacts.

Not a bad idea. I know some people that would love to go back in time and do this for Irma. Irma lifted their roof only slightly but enough to ruin your day.
