Start-up Capacitor for Honda Genset ?

What is the correct term for that add-on item that allows you to run equipment that has a high start up load?

Cheif, It might help if we knew what you are trying to do. The hard start capacitors are pretty generic for certain devices. Dometic has one for their air conditioners. Chuck

Re: Start-up Capacitor for Honda Genset ?

Supco is one company that makes them. I have an airconditioner that runs on about 500 watts but needs about 3000 watts to start. I put a Supco hard start capacitor on the air conditioner. I can start and run it on a 1000 watt Honda. You buy them from refrigeration supply companies.
Here is an explanation of how to use them: http://www.supco.com/images/pdfs/AC%...%20Booklet.pdf

Re: Start-up Capacitor for Honda Genset ?

Air compressors that start under load are notoriously hard for generating sets to cope with. If all else fails and the design can be adapted, it might be worthwhile to add a clutch that allows the motor to spin up to speed before engaging the compressor. Depending on the design and rating of the alternator you may still need a suitable hard start or power factor correction capacitor.
