Refrigeration

Hope to get some assistance or suggestions;
Just pitched a Bristol 38.8 1982 with Grunert refrigeration, this a 12v compressor driven fridge (AR-50 12v) fresh water cooled condenser
The compressor won’t kick on- there don’t seem to be any loose wires- haven’t had a chance to check to strainer to see if there is a clog- but that shouldn’t attest the compressor(?)
Any suggestions or experience out there? Thx

Congrats on your Bristol .These are great boats , we have a 45.5 and love it. As for the refrigeration system ? We had the same set up and pulled it all out . No parts for these older ones and if you do get it going it will eat your batteries .

When ever you buy an older boat , upgrading the refrigeration system goes hand in hand with new sails, bottom paint ..........and so on . Not that I am trying to sell you one , maybe you can find someone to fix it . Just trying to share my experiences with a fellow Bristol owner and save you a little headache.

Regards John.

Re: Refrigeration

Unless the motor is bad, it's likely a control or solenoid problem. Power up the motor directly and see if it runs. If so, go looking for hi and lo pressure switch issues or perhaps the thermostat.

Going to want to check for power at various points. Could also be locked up but make sure your getting power to the motor first.
