Heart Interface

Need help with shore power.
I am.set up with a heart interface system consisting of a Link 2000 R Monitor / Controler and a Freedom 20 charger / inverter.
At the current dock in Grenada they are supplying 120 volt / 60 cycle power but my system will not come on using the shore power.
The marina has tested the power and cord and says it must be a problem on the boat.
I started my Honda 2000 and everything powered up on the boat. I charged the batteries then turned on the a/c outlets and ran the 120v air conditioner. No problems. Everything worked as it should.
Any suggestions as to how to get the shore power accepted on the boat? Any suggestions as to where to look or what to check? Thanks

Re: Heart Interface

The heart will not pass through voltage that is too high or too low. Did you Actually measure the ac voltage? At the panel?

I’m assuming the Honda is also a 120v 60hz?

I had issues last month where a dock was around 135v and the inverters would not pass it. The dock electrician said it was fine....

Re: Heart Interface

Yep. Smac99 has the answer. Test the voltage at the shore power cord. 99% chance it’s wrong. Potentially the frequency is out of range too, but try the voltage first.

Re: Heart Interface

3 Technitions all verified my meter is reading correctly - 115-120 v.
They said there is static in the sine wave and this old system has no tolerance. A newer charger/inverter can handle 10% variation in the sine wave.
Any suggestions how to bypass this issue or filter out the static? Thanks

Re: Heart Interface

Easiest, cheapest way is to just completely bypass the whole Heart Interface system if you’ll be at the dock a long time.

Just bring the power in, hard wired to your AC inputs on the electrical panel.

Sucks, but at least it’ll work.

You would have to add a new battery charger as well..

Was hoping he had enough solar or something to keep up with 12v loads while using shore power for hvac, but yeah. Unfortunately, he may have to.

Why?

The Freedom 20 has a built-in automatic transfer switch. The Link 2000R gives him the chance to turn the charger and inverter features on or off remotely.

Highly possible. In Antigua the power and frequency is so unreliable that many household appliances fail, Eve window fans. Caribbean problem.

Because the way these are wired, ALL ac power is routed through them. Through the automatic transfer switch you’re talking about.

They check the source for any issues, then allow it to pass after several seconds once it automatically determines the power is good. His is determining the power is bad and not allowing it through.

So... he’s stuck. Automatic transfer switch is not letting shore power through.

He needs to bypass

But make sure the Heart is COMPLETLY disconnected from AC power. Both input and output. Wouldn't hurt to cut the DC cables to. Applying AC to the output will kill it, and if you run the AC direct to the panel without disconnecting the Heart output, there will be AC on it and it will blow.

Because it’s not working.... hence the post.

To bypass the heart. You just remove the 2 ac cables and butt splice them together. When he’s back to a dock caliber if supplying correct power. Reconnect back into inverter.

If the inverter doesn’t have its own battery switch. (Should but many don’t). Then pull the fuse.

Re: Heart Interface

The Freedom also has a small fuse on an internal circuit board that allows the automatic transfer to occur. If this fuse is blown then there will be not transfer. Open up the case (disconnected from any power source) and check this fuse. Its a 3G glass fuse of about 1A. I moved mine to an external chassis case holder so if it goes again it is easy to change.
