Re: Convert from 220v or not

Thanks much.

So now it's just a matter of carrying plug adapters to match each of the mains outlets I will encounter.

Seems relatively straightforward then.

No.
All else being equal, the *voltage* does not affect the wire size.
Define "equal". For equal power, 240v systems require smaller gauge to deliver "equal" power.

To the initial question: We need a run down on current electrically powered systems and what you want to maintain.
- On a small simple boat with minimal AC equipment, it can be fairly simple to convert if the wires were oversize and/or power demands are low.
- On a larger more complicated boat with generator, air/con units, washers, and other high demand items, it can get expensive and complicated.
- Then you have partial solutions such as operating parallel AC systems (possibly only providing a small number of outlets and some systems not available via one power source)...one at 240v and one at 120v...but even these should be done with care to make sure they don't get energized with the wrong voltage and don't violate safety.

Since you are asking the question, this implies you don't know enough to handle a complicated conversion. If it isn't a simple boat, I would strongly suggest paying someone qualified to at least layout a conversion plan for you if not to do the work.
