Battery negative questions

Hi! I am redoing my electrical and I want some advice on reattaching the batterys' negatives.

The PO had one (of the two) battery negatives attached next to the diesel fuel lines. Even though it is diesel that still makes me uncomfortable.

I know the negative needs to go on the engine block itself, but do you have any wisdom as to where is best? Any "chicken superstition" places to avoid?

Two battery, simple system, one cranking, one other stuff, two pole perko switch.

The attachment points I am eyeing for each battery negative is under the alternator support bracket. I would put one negative on each of the two support bolts. I will remove any paint/dirt on the engine at this point and will not use a washer in between the engine and the negative's lug.

Any problems with these points? They are close to the starter's outer casing (but will not be touching it).
